GETTING REAL ABOUT REMAKE
WEDNESDAY 18 FEBRUARY
4:30PM – 6:30PM
TALK
Remaking textiles is all about transforming unwanted or wasted materials into new products, but what does this look like in practice? This panel will bring together local brands remaking textiles and explore the potential of the charity sector to contribute.
You’ll hear from Gwen Venn (National Retail Partnership Manager, Save the Children) about the role of the local charity sector, Lauren Hart McKinnon (Fashion Designer, Be Right Back / Executive Director, Object Merchant) about how remake can provide creative solutions, and from Rosie Packham (Founder, House of Thickett) about what building a brand based on remaking textile waste looks like. Moderated by Julia English, whose PhD research studied remake collaborations, this panel is all about the logistics, challenges and opportunities for small brands to participate in remake.
For industry actors keen to build collaborative partnerships for textile waste, a facilitated speed-dating session will be run after the panel discussion. If you are a brand with textile waste and looking for creative partnerships and solutions, or an emerging designer looking to source garments and textile products to remake, this is just the opportunity for you. You’ll be asked about the types of partners you’re interested in, and Julia will help facilitate a series of short 1:1 conversations to help kickstart collaborative relationships.
