EVENT POLICIES

1. No Fur or Exotic Skins Policy

MFF is committed to not allowing the presentation of fur or exotic animal skins at MFF produced and / or promoted shows and events. Only items containing fake or faux fur will be permitted.

Definition: A fur item may be defined as anything made of or containing the actual fur of an animal, including trim. It does not include fleece (such as wool or shearling products) or skin (such as leather or calf-hair leather). Exotic animal skins include (but are not limited to) snake, crocodile, alligator, stingray, lizard and other reptiles.

2. Green Policy

MFF is committed to conducting daily operations and producing events in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. We recognize that reducing and, where possible, eliminating the environmental impacts of our activities is an important part of our mission.  We strive to be an industry leader in achieving environmental excellence and will work with our employees and external entities to establish and follow principles.

The MFF guiding principles and practices to achieve resource conservation, waste reduction, and sustainability overall are summarized below:

  • Providing a safe and healthy workplace;

  • Having an environmentally sustainable aware culture, where responsibility is assigned and understood;

  • Conserving natural resources by reusing and recycling;

  • Using, in our own operations, processes that do not adversely affect the environment;

  • Ensuring the responsible use of energy throughout the organisation;

  • Taking steps to improve environmental performance continually;

  • Conducting regular audits, evaluations, and self-assessments of the implementation of this policy;

  • Working with suppliers who promote sound environmental practices; and

  • Enhancing awareness among our employees, volunteers, and event attendees – educating and motivating them to act in an environmentally responsible manner.

3. Model Talent

MFF is committed to being inclusive in its casting of models for the MFF produced fashion and event programmes. MFF aims to cast a model line-up that has a representation of sizes, ages and ethnic backgrounds including First Nations people, faiths, genders, sexualities, and abilities. MFF will brief its agencies with this objective.

MFF aims to promote body image positivity and body kindness through the festival programme and model experience.

MFF aims to care for talent by also supplying nutritious and culturally appropriate meals, snacks, and water backstage for models during MFF events.

MFF supports the well-being of younger individuals by not hiring models under the age of 18 for runway shows; not allowing models under the age of 18 to work past midnight at fittings or shoots; and providing regular breaks and rest to all models.

No models under the age of 18 can be used for MFF events unless in a specific child or teen show and provided prior written parental/guardian consent has been obtained.

The producer of any events to be programmed and promoted by MFF who wish to work with talent under the age of 18, must first notify and seek the consent of MFF prior to engaging such talent and prior to program publication. The producers must adhere to all legal requirements of the Child Employment Act and the Mandatory Code of Practice for the Employment of Children in Entertainment (including but not limited to required ratio of personnel with current Working with Children Checks, safety, supervision, risk management and working hours).

All such producers will be required to demonstrate the highest standards of adherence to legal and industry requirements to MFF in order to stage events with talent under the age of 18 (including both paid and unpaid work)

MFF may decline to program or promote any event in its absolute discretion.
