MAKE A BAY BAGUETTE | TWO-DAY INTENSIVE

SAT 14 & 21 FEBRUARY
9:00AM – 3:30PM

WORKSHOP

Make a Baguette Bag is a two-day intensive course at the newly launched simétrie school where students learn traditional bag construction by creating their own Bay Baguette – an exclusive design available only through the school curriculum. The course is designed for those interested in learning the craft of bag making.

Students work directly with founder Simone Agius through hands-on studio practice, learning every step from panel cutting to final burnishing. Over two full days, participants will learn to select leather, cut bag panels from paper patterns, master the saddle-stitching technique, attach magnets and rivets, and apply professional edge finishing methods.

The intensive format ensures skill development alongside completing a finished bag in the two classes.

Limited to four students to maintain individual mentorship and attention throughout. The course assumes no prior leather-working background, but some sewing or craft skills as a foundation would be ideal.

All materials, tools, and the completed Bay Baguette are included. Students leave with leatherworking capabilities and a handcrafted bag designed for longevity.

  • Simone Agius founded simétrie in 2019, creating sculptural bags and accessories from beautiful, considered materials. Working exclusively with natural fibres and Australian leathers, Simone designs pieces that feel both distinctive and timeless.

Each piece is made through collaboration with local artisans and makers ~ from strap cutting in Reservoir to stitching in Ballarat to finishing in her Brunswick atelier. This collaborative approach keeps local industries alive while creating genuine craft and authentic connections between makers and wearers. Each piece is designed for longevity and backed by a lifetime repair warranty, reflecting simétrie’s commitment to circular design principles.

As a second-generation Australian of Mediterranean heritage, Simone is deeply committed to supporting migrant women through ethical production practices. She is passionate about skill sharing and craft education, believing that preserving traditional techniques benefits both individual makers and the broader community.

simétrie school represents Simone’s long-term vision for thoughtful craft education. Through intensive programmes and hands-on learning, she aims to preserve traditional leatherworking techniques while making them accessible to new makers.
