THE DIVA WARDROBE

SAT 21 & SAT 28 FEBRUARY
1:00PM

TOUR

Join the Curators from the Australian Performing Arts Collection for a deep dive into the stage wardrobe of celebrated leading ladies. In conjunction with the DIVA exhibition, this tour will take visitors behind the scenes and into collection storage to see costumes worn by performers such as Olivia Newton John, Kylie Minogue, Dame Joan Sutherland and Dame Nellie Melba.

Discover the stories behind performances that have made Australian history and led to famous careers on the world stage. Get up close to the costumes and accessories worn by legendary names across music, theatre, opera, dance and circus from the early 1900s to today and delve into the creative process behind them.

With insights gathered from the performers who wore them, the designers who created them and the makers who labored over them, this guided tour will take visitors beyond the stage to the wonders of the Diva Wardrobe.

  • Arts Centre Melbourne sits on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People. The site has been a gathering place for storytelling, community and culture for First Nations people for millennia. In recent times, the same place has become home to the Melbourne Arts Precinct – one of the largest concentrations of cultural and creative organisations and artists in the world. Built into the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River) and extending below the water table, Arts Centre Melbourne was constructed with ingenuity, guts and sheer determination. This limitless imagination and creativity are reflected in the performances, events and experiences on and beyond our stages.
