WWYW COMMON THREADS
SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY
6:00PM
INDEPENDENT RUNWAYS
What Were You Wearing? Australia presents an evocative runway event exploring the intersection of fashion and social justice. This showcase challenges harmful narratives surrounding sexual assault and victimhood, reimagining how clothing, identity, and consent are perceived within contemporary culture.
The collection features garments designed to confront and subvert the question, “What were you wearing?”, a phrase too often used to shift blame onto survivors. Each look tells a story of reclamation and resilience, transforming fabric into a medium of empowerment rather than judgement. Through bold design, art, and visual storytelling, the runway becomes a space where survivors’ voices are centred and their strength celebrated.
This event not only presents fashion as art, but also as a powerful tool for social commentary and change. By dismantling stereotypes that link attire with consent, it invites audiences to reflect on the deeper cultural attitudes that perpetuate victim-blaming and silence.
Collaborating with emerging designers, artists, and advocates, What Were You Wearing? Australia creates an inclusive platform for dialogue and visibility. The event encourages empathy and understanding, using creativity as a means to inspire collective responsibility and cultural transformation.
This is more than a fashion show, it is an act of resistance and hope. It celebrates the courage of survivors and reclaims fashion as a language of truth, empowerment, and freedom from stigma.
