Learn and polish fashion illustration skills while illustrating looks from the NGV Westwood | Kawakubo exhibition.
This one-day workshop will begin with sketching in the gallery at the NGV Westwood | Kawakubo exhibition, exploring different approaches to drawing the fabulous designs on display “from life”.
After lunch we move to a workshop space for a fashion illustration workshop covering the core fundamentals of fashion illustration and how to sketch fashion figures “from scratch”. These skills will be applied to a mixed media fashion illustration artwork featuring designs from both Vivienne Westwood and Rae Kawakubo, as seen in the exhibition.
All materials are provided, and reference notes given to take home.
This workshop is suitable for all levels including beginners.
You will learn:
The key stylistic influences and design ethos of Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo
How to sketch from life to document fashion designs
Key principles of Fashion Illustration including proportion and pose structure
How to sketch fashion figures “from scratch” using a method you can apply to any figures in the future
How to add drama and “sass” to your fashion illustrations
How to apply colour to fashion illustrations
How to work with mixed media including watercolours, Indian ink, pastels and collage

Bonus recorded demonstrations are available to watch for one month after the workshop
The Drawing Salon classes were launched during the Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2010, by fashion illustrator and educator Angie Réhe. With over 30 years experience in fashion design and illustration, Angie brings her passion for art and learning to her relaxed, fun, and informative classes.

Angie Réhe is a Melbourne-based artist and educator whose work celebrates her love of fashion, art, and design. Her work is sought for magazines, books, wine labels and more, and she is a favoured live event artist. She runs her own “Drawing Salon” classes, teaches at University and regularly for galleries including the NGV.
