**FIBRE**
TUESDAY 17 FEBRUARY
5:00PM – 8:00PM
EXHIBITION
The works in this exhibition carry the presence of the hands that shaped them. Fibres dyed with the earth's own pigments, woven into forms that speak of identity and deep connection to Country.
Fibre art from Arnhem Land holds an intimacy that invites close attention. These are objects made to be touched, worn, carried. They retain the memory of their making — the rhythm of gathering that transforms plant material into something both functional and beautiful.
To collect these fibres is to walk Country, to read its signs, to take only what is needed. The land dictates the palette: root dyes yield ochres and deep reds, while different preparation methods produce subtle variations in tone and texture. Nothing is arbitrary.
There is a particular quality to fibre that distinguishes it from other mediums. It invites the hand. The surface gives under pressure. You sense the twist of individual strands, feel where the maker's fingers paused and resumed. This tactility connects viewer to artist— a physical conversation conducted through material.
When fibre adorns the body, it becomes a site of cultural expression. It wraps, encircles, transforms. These works remind us that art need not exist at a distance. It can sit against skin, carrying the texture of place and the knowledge of making.

4 LANGRIDGE STREET (4LS) is a temporary project space fostering cultural innovation, conversation, and creative development. We primarily support First Nations cultural and creative practitioners by providing infrastructure and curatorial support. We facilitate dialogue between thought leaders and our communities, creating space for meaningful exchange around culture and the arts. Our aim is to create opportunities to test new ideas, build audiences, and develop projects that can scale into larger cultural initiatives.
