PROCRASTINATORS

22 FEBRUARY - 8 MARCH

YIMU HAIR SALON, QV, 185 LITTLE LONSDALE STREET, MELBOURNE

OPENING TIMES:
MONDAY - SUNDAY, 11:30AM - 8:00PM

"Procrastinator" is a solo exhibition by Carol Yang that uses fashion to explore the concept of procrastination and its associated waste. The collection transforms discarded materials—such as old clothes, excess pattern paper, fabric scraps, and broken hangers—into both the medium and the message. These items, accumulated through inaction, symbolise the mental and physical stasis of procrastination.

The designs function as wearable objects while also existing as "activity sculptures," representing the procrastinator’s mindset. The pieces, though made from waste, maintain their utility as clothing, but also serve as autonomous art, blurring the lines between function and excess.

Through this transformation, Yang critiques both the personal impact of procrastination and the broader wastefulness of the fashion industry. The exhibition presents procrastination in a humorous, yet thought-provoking way, inviting viewers to reflect on how inaction creates both tangible waste and missed opportunity.

Free to attend. No bookings required.

ABOUT THE EVENT ORGANISER
Carol is a sustainable fashion designer and fashion artist. Her master graduated project inspired her innovativeness of fashion. She developed her practice from standard collection design to contemporary project design, with a desire to move beyond the shackles of the body. Her practice explores her character and healing. By taking fashion waste of all types, including broken clothes hangers and unused clotheslines, her design recall domestic clutter, a constant reminder to us all of our role in overconsumption. Carol conceptual approach makes for a wearable outfit that can also exist independently as an artwork or ‘activity sculpture’.

Carol has gained Australian fashion field recognition, Australian top 10 designers at the National Graduate Showcase by Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2022, four emerging designers for ‘WASTEFEST’ project in 2022 Melbourne Fashion Week’s Independent Program, finalist designers for 'WE THE MAKERS' by National Wool Museum in 2023. She was exhibited her work in Manningham Art Gallery, BETA by STH BNK, National Wool Museum. Carol has also reported by Fashion Journal, Melbourne Fashion Festival, RMIT news, Melbourne Fashion Hub. She was collaborated with Samsung Galaxy showroom and Doingbird Magazine.
