I WEAR MY CULTURE FASHION FILM DIRECTED BY GILMORE QHAWE KHUMALO

Popularly known as Gilmore Tee, Gilmore Qhawe Khumalo is an award-winning media practitioner, curator, publicist and content creator. He is the Founder & Creative Director of Paper Bag Africa, a content creation, management and public relations establishment headquartered in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Gilmore has led a research named I Wear My Culture, on ethnic groups in Zimbabwe, using Fashion and Film to capture findings. The end results of the research are contemporary looks, made by 10 young designers, inspired by the findings, a fashion film and mini-documentary.

What if you could wear your culture? What if you could express your identity and heritage through fashion? That’s the question that 9 Zimbabwean designers set out to answer in I wear my culture, a fashion film that showcases their stunning creations inspired by different ethnic groups in Zimbabwe.

The film is the first part of a two-part project, the second being a feature-length documentary that goes behind the scenes of the research and design process of the designers. I wear my culture is a film that celebrates and preserves the rich and diverse heritage of Zimbabwe, as well as the potential and innovation of African fashion.
