The Fashion Film Awards has become a globally recognised platform, elevating the artistry of fashion filmmaking and its vital role in the communication of fashion narratives.

We invite filmmakers from all backgrounds and levels of experience to submit their work for this prestigious competition. Finalists will have their films screened at an exclusive awards night, honouring and celebrating the most innovative and captivating work in fashion film today in front of an audience of film enthusiasts, media, and industry professionals.

Award categories:

  • Best Fashion Film: Open to all professional and amateur film makers and agencies from around the globe

  • Best Student Fashion Film: Open to applicants who are currently enrolled in a Fashion or Film-related course, or who graduated between June 2022 and June 2024 so long as the submitted film was made as part of their student work

    • Cast/Credits 

    1. The film must be a maximum duration of 7 minutes or less (including credits)

    2. The film must have Fashion at its core   

    3. The film must be consistent with the Festival's values. It must not feature clothing containing animal fur, exotic skins, and feathers the use of illicit substances or depiction of minors in a sexualised manner

    4. The film must receive a classification of 'G' or equivalent and must not incite or depict violence, nudity or strong language

    5. The Festival will only accept completed films

    6. The Festival will not accept a previously submitted film in a later year, even with significant changes (films submitted for the 2024 Award will not be eligible)  

    7. English subtitles are required for non-English films 

    8. Films submitted into the student category must be from Australian fashion/film course students or graduates 

  • Each weighting number denotes the maximum number of points attainable within the respective category. 

    • Criteria 1: Celebrates and showcases Australian and/or international fashion at its core (Fashion Focused) [25] 

    • Criteria 2: The fashion film is engaging and entertaining (Engaging) [25] 

    • Criteria 3: Demonstrates artistic innovation and a strong directorial style (Style) [20] 

    • Criteria 4: Demonstrates a unique perspective (Unique Perspective) [20] 

    • Criteria 5: Demonstrates a high level of production (Production Value) [10] 

  • All Finalists

    • Film screened at premium 2025 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival event to an audience of media, industry, and ticketed guests 

    • Listed as part of the 2025 Fashion FIlm Award official selection 

    • Suite of VIP invitations to the 2025 Festival’s premium events, including the 2025 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival official launch event 

    • Two official VIP invites to the 2025 Fashion Film Award Premiere Screening event 

    • All finalist Fashion Films (visual only) to be featured as part of the screen content at the Festival’s offical hub, the Fashion Forecourt (foot traffic of approx. 15,000 people across Festival period) 

    • 45-minute virtual meet and greet with Beatrice Bloom, Director of London Fashion Film Festival

    Best Fashion Film

    • Best Fashion Film digital laurel to be displayed on film  

    • Film posted as a collaborative reel on the Festival’s Instagram

AL COSSAR

Artistic Director,
Melbourne International Film Festival

Al Cossar is currently Artistic Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival, where he has worked since 2011. Previously Al was Program Director for the Portable Film Festival, a founding programmer, and subsequent Board Member for the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival, and Festival Manager for Flickerfest.

Al has been a television film critic for ABC News Breakfast, and worked in post production supervision in his home country of New Zealand.

BEATRICE BLOOM

Beatrice Bloom has been President and Director of the London Fashion Film Festival for the past 10 years, initially appointed for her contribution to a revolutionary way of seeing fashion films, which became her new movement in the industry.

Beatrice has been an international jury member in other film festivals, as well as a mentor in universities. Beatrice has also been a freelance director, producer and fashion film tutor, since 2010.

CLARE MOLESWORTH

A true marketing and consumer hybrid with 19 years’ experience specialising in fashion, beauty, retail, lifestyle, arts and culture, Clare Molesworth has been the Chief Customer Officer of PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival since 2023.

Over her career Clare has worked with high profile global brands including Loewe, Zimmermann, Mecca Brands, Net-a-Porter, Mr Porter, Tod’s, Country Road, L’Oreal, La Roche-Posay, Sephora, Frank Green, Powerhouse Museum and Sydney Design Festival.

SARAH HICKEY

Founder and Managing Partner,
Monster & Bear
 

Sarah Hickey is the Founder and Managing Partner of Melbourne-born creative and production company Monster & Bear. Having directed several fashion films over the years, in conjunction with an extensive commercial catalogue, Sarah’s sensibilities in the directing, and creative direction space, span many genres.

When Sarah’s not involved in commercials at Monster & Bear, you’ll find her directing TV series (Spooky Files, Crazy Fun Park, Planet Lulin) or her own independent short films. 

SARAH TUTTON

Director, Programming and Interpretation,
Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation
 

Sarah leads a team that develops and delivers a range of arts and community programs, working closely with precinct partners, community organisations and the wider arts sector, and develops interpretative materials for a range of sites and platforms. 

Prior to MAP Co, Sarah was Chief Curator at ACMI where she curated their permanent exhibition, The Story of the Moving Image, as well as blockbuster touring exhibitions such as DreamWorks Animation and Wonderland.
