MIND: THE REGENERATIVE FASHION STORE

28 FEBRUARY - 8 MARCH

SMITH & GERTRUDE GALLERY, 73 SMITH ST, FITZROY

OPENING NIGHT: FRIDAY 28 FEBRUARY, 6:00PM - LATE

DAY TRADE: SATURDAY 1 MARCH - SATURDAY 8 MARCH, 11:00AM - 6:00PM

MIND: The Regenerative Fashion Store, showcases 24 local fashion and accessories designers and makers that create high end pieces applying circular fashion practices into their work. Each designer creates through methods of circularity: overprint, reconstruction, shredding, dyeing, crochet and knit, using remnant, dead-stock and second-hand materials and garments, as well as innovative materials such as Econyl. These designers push the boundaries of ways in which textile waste can be reconsidered into your next favourite pieces.

Regenerative fashion supports circularity in fashion design through up-cycling materials that would otherwise be discarded (Made Trade 2023). Australia currently contributes over 200,000 tonnes of clothing to landfills every year (Seamless 2024). MIND encourages reflection on our relationship with clothing by curating a store, brimming with innovation in the local regenerative fashion and design community.

MIND invites you to shop a range of garments, bags, jewellery, footwear and art pieces. Come and talk to the designers and invest in the future of fashion.

ABOUT THE EVENT ORGANISER
Poppy Somers is a fashion designer and artist who reflects on human-environment interactions. A 2023 RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design) (Honours) graduate, Poppy creates garments inspired by Australian environmental issues to gain attention towards the important theme behind each project. Using materials such as second-hand garments, 100% natural materials, and found discarded materials, she creates thoughtful pieces that minimise their impact on the environment in order to highlight the urgency and need for societal change.

Poppy founded MIND as a way to showcase designers who are working in the regenerative fashion field to industry and new audiences. All designers involved help bring the event together, which allows emerging designers to gain industry experience while fostering a strong community of like-minded people. MIND: The Regenerative Fashion Store gives designers a platform to showcase their brand, while engaging with local communities surrounding regenerative fashion design.
