The Fashion Film Awards has become a globally recognised platform, elevating the artistry of fashion filmmaking and its vital role in the communication of fashion narratives.

We invite filmmakers from all backgrounds and levels of experience to submit their work for this prestigious competition. Finalists will have their films screened at an exclusive awards night, honouring and celebrating the most innovative and captivating work in fashion film today in front of an audience of film enthusiasts, media, and industry professionals.

Award categories:

  • Best Fashion Film: Open to all professional and amateur film makers and agencies from around the globe

  • Best Student Fashion Film: Open to applicants who are currently enrolled in a Fashion or Film-related course, or who graduated between June 2022 and June 2024 so long as the submitted film was made as part of their student work

    27 February 2025 – Fashion Film Award Screening Event 

  • Submission requirements will include:  

    • Fashion Film File 

    • Film Synopsis  

    • Director Biography  

    • Submission of film file  

    • Cast/Credits 

    1. The film must be a maximum duration of 7 minutes or less (including credits)

    2. The film must have Fashion at its core   

    3. The film must be consistent with the Festival's values. It must not feature clothing containing animal fur, exotic skins, and feathers the use of illicit substances or depiction of minors in a sexualised manner

    4. The film must receive a classification of 'G' or equivalent and must not incite or depict violence, nudity or strong language

    5. The Festival will only accept completed films

    6. The Festival will not accept a previously submitted film in a later year, even with significant changes (films submitted for the 2024 Award will not be eligible)  

    7. English subtitles are required for non-English films 

    8. Films submitted into the student category must be from Australian fashion/film course students or graduates 

  • Each weighting number denotes the maximum number of points attainable within the respective category. 

    • Criteria 1: Celebrates and showcases Australian and/or international fashion at its core (Fashion Focused) [25] 

    • Criteria 2: The fashion film is engaging and entertaining (Engaging) [25] 

    • Criteria 3: Demonstrates artistic innovation and a strong directorial style (Style) [20] 

    • Criteria 4: Demonstrates a unique perspective (Unique Perspective) [20] 

    • Criteria 5: Demonstrates a high level of production (Production Value) [10] 

  • All Finalists

    • Film screened at premium 2025 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival event to an audience of media, industry, and ticketed guests 

    • Listed as part of the 2025 Fashion FIlm Award official selection 

    • Suite of VIP invitations to the 2025 Festival’s premium events, including the 2025 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival official launch event 

    • Two official VIP invites to the 2025 Fashion Film Award Premiere Screening event 

    • All finalist Fashion Films (visual only) to be featured as part of the screen content at the Festival’s offical hub, the Fashion Forecourt (foot traffic of approx. 15,000 people across Festival period) 

    Best Fashion Film

    • Best Fashion Film digital laurel to be displayed on film  

    • Film posted as a collaborative reel on the Festival’s Instagram  

    Best Student Fashion Film

    • Best Student Fashion Film digital laurel to be displayed on film  

    • Film posted as a collaborative reel on the Festival’s Instagram
